Under Orders
by Dick Francis
In 2000, Dick Francis's last novel, Shattered, ended a novel-a-year run of almost 40 years. That year his wife Mary (who was also his researcher, collaborator and editor) died; rumours abounded that he was retiring. Now, after a 6-year drought, there is a new novel, Under Orders. Released in the U.K. last week (amazon.co.uk) , it is due for release in the U.S. later this month (amazon.com) , and in Canada in October (amazon.ca). Under Orders is the fourth Sid Halley novel, the previous three being Odds Against (1965) Whip Hand (1979), and Come to Grief (1995).Reviews I have seen have all been positive. The only mildly negative comment I've read is that the plot will feel familiar.
