Woodbine & Gerrard, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
For the last 7 years, I have been living in the east end of Toronto, near the intersection of Woodbine Avenue and Gerrard Street East. It took some getting used to, as I had lived downtown for the previous 8 years. Then, I was near the corner of Yonge St. and Wellesley St., 5 years on the east side and 3 years on the west. Everything I needed was within walking distance. Locked to the fence, my bicycle gathered rust. A few TTC tokens lasted months.
After my move, I'm 9 subway stops and a bus ride away from Yonge & Bloor.
It took a while, but I now feel at home in the area, and I have even started a community web site. I don't yet know what it will develop into. I'd like it to become an on-line magazine or newspaper, featuring events in the area, along with advertising or web pages for the area's businesses, profiles of interesting residents, etcetera. The URL is http://woodbine-gerrard.com.
Ruby Zhang, a new partner in the bar (now called Ruby Tuesdays) on the northwest corner of the Woodbine-Gerrard intersection, will be doing some sketches for the site. Ruby's watercolour paintings of Toronto can be seen at http://www.rubyzhang.com.
